Thu 20 March 2025
Ruchill Golf Pavillion
Screening, community meal, talk
Collaborators: Food & Climate Action Project
The evening's event facilitated by the Food & Climate Action Project & Glasgow Seed Library will include a film screening of Seeds of Freedom, community meal & talk around seed sovereignty, led by Hamshya Rajkumar.
Participants will learn about the impacts of patenting seeds by large corporations, and the importance of seed saving in the current context. They will be encouraged to engage in group discussion around the topic and will take home some heritage variety bean seeds to grow at home (suitable for windowsill growing!).
All audiences welcome, no prior knowledge required.
Film Screening:
Seeds of Freedom is a landmark film narrated by Jeremy Irons. The story of seed has become one of loss, control, dependence and debt. It’s been written by those who want to make vast profit from our food system, no matter what the true cost. It’s time to change the story.
Produced by The Gaia Foundation and the African Biodiversity Network, in collaboration with MELCA Ethiopia, Navdanya International and GRAIN.
Meal:
A vegan, halal & gluten-free meal prepared using heritage beans will be served. Please leave any details of dietary requirements when signing up.
This event is part of our “Seeding” module, for Glasgow Community Food Network‘s Movement Building 2025 theme: The Life Cycle of Food. Read on to find out more about this strand of work.
Location:
This event will take place at Ruchill Golf Pavillion (1 Brassey Street).
Glasgow Community Food Network have been working with the residents of Ruchill, & partners at Glasgow City Council, to explore options for using the disused Ruchill Golf Course for productive food growing & community gardening.
